NEW RIVER RETREAT

From the glass wall of the kitchen, you look out over the pool, beyond the yachts docked nearby, to see colorful birds heading for the tropical forest across the water and manatees slowly swimming by your deepwater dock. At sunset, you’ll want to grab a drink and head out to your private terrace off the living room. As you watch the red sky sink into the canal and fade into night, the distant twinkling lights remind you that Fort Lauderdale’s finest restaurants and hottest entertainment spots are less than a mile from your private oasis in West Las Olas.

This gated retreat was completely rebuilt in 2006 with a flexible floor plan that accommodates escape or entertaining. The open plan of the living room/dining room provides comfortable seating/entertaining areas with a large flat-screen, high definition satellite television and Bose stereo/CD player. The best of chefs will enjoy the kitchen’s full range of top-line appliances and cookware, and bar-b-que aficionados will appreciate the charcoal grill on the pool terrace.

The house sleeps four in two comfortable queen-size beds. The master bedroom walks out onto a private terrace, and the guest room doubles as a den in the daytime, with handcrafted shelves sliding out, converting into a bedroom at night. There are two full baths and televisions in each bedroom. All linens are provided.

The pool can be heated, and if you bring or rent a boat, you can dock it where you are, and where yachts of any size look right at home. New River Retreat is a new, lovely and quiet hideaway near downtown Fort Lauderdale. Once inside your garden gate, it’s hard to believe you’re just up the river and down the road from Riverwalk, the Performing Arts Center and Las Olas Boulevard.
